{"id":23344,"date":"2026-02-19T20:03:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=23344"},"modified":"2026-02-19T20:03:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T20:03:12","slug":"the-boys-club-no-one-was-supposed-to-write-about","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=23344","title":{"rendered":"The boys&#8217; club no one was supposed to write about"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you work in tech, Wired\u2019s new <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.wired.com\/story\/inside-the-gay-tech-mafia\/\">cover story<\/a> isn\u2019t exactly going to shatter your worldview, but it\u2019s a genuinely great read all the same. <\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Reporter Zo\u00eb Bernard spent months talking to 51 people (31 of them gay men) to map out a subculture that\u2019s been an open secret in Silicon Valley for years: gay men, at the upper echelons of tech, quietly raising up their own networks the way powerful people have always done.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One angel investor puts it plainly: \u201cThe gays who work in tech are succeeding vastly\u2026 they support each other, whether that\u2019s to hire someone or angel invest in their companies or lead their funding rounds.\u201d Another source frames it almost philosophically: \u201cStraight guys have the golf course. Gay guys have the orgy. It doesn\u2019t mean it\u2019s problematic. It\u2019s a way we bond and connect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The piece doesn\u2019t let the culture off the hook entirely. As is true wherever power dynamics exist, nine of the gay men interviewed describe experiencing unwanted advances from more senior colleagues \u2014 and Bernard doesn\u2019t shy from examining where networking ends and coercion begins. But her sources are careful about what that means: \u201cThis is a complex subject and I don\u2019t think readers can draw the distinction between some bad men being gay and all gay men being bad.
