{"id":23270,"date":"2026-02-19T14:53:12","date_gmt":"2026-02-19T14:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=23270"},"modified":"2026-02-19T14:53:12","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T14:53:12","slug":"andrew-mountbatten-windsor-arrested-on-suspicion-of-misconduct-in-public-office-uk-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=23270","title":{"rendered":"Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office | UK news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor has been arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office by police investigating the former prince\u2019s dealings with the convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In unprecedented scenes, unmarked police cars and plainclothes officers were seen at Mountbatten-Windsor\u2019s residence at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate around 8am.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The former prince, who was stripped of his titles last year but remains eighth in line to the throne, was held in custody on his 66th birthday by Thames Valley police as officers searched the Norfolk property as well his former home in the Royal Lodge in Great Windsor Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">As royal commentators raced to provide wall-to-wall analysis to news broadcasters across the world, King Charles gave his backing to the police investigation, stating the \u201claw must take its course\u201d and expressing \u201cdeepest concern\u201d over the arrest of his brother. It is understood the Prince and Princess of Wales endorse the king\u2019s message.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWhat now follows is the full, fair and proper process by which this issue is investigated in the appropriate manner and by the appropriate authorities,\u201d the king said in a statement. \u201cIn this, as I have said before, they have our full and wholehearted support and cooperation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In the glare of increased public scrutiny, the king and queen continued their royal duties with Charles attending three separate in-person audiences at St James\u2019s Palace and Camilla visiting the Sinfonia Smith Square in Westminster for a lunchtime orchestral concert.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Thought to be the first time a member of the royal family has been arrested by police in modern history, the shock move came just hours after the prime minister, Keir Starmer, said \u201cnobody is above the law\u201d when questioned about Mountbatten-Windsor.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"ba1cf720-acbc-41b8-8c59-78e082ea4621\" data-spacefinder-role=\"inline\" data-spacefinder-type=\"model.dotcomrendering.pageElements.ImageBlockElement\" class=\"dcr-173mewl\"><figcaption data-spacefinder-role=\"inline\" class=\"dcr-fd61eq\"><span class=\"dcr-1inf02i\"><svg width=\"18\" height=\"13\" viewbox=\"0 0 18 13\"><path d=\"M18 3.5v8l-1.5 1.5h-15l-1.5-1.5v-8l1.5-1.5h3.5l2-2h4l2 2h3.5l1.5 1.5zm-9 7.5c1.9 0 3.5-1.6 3.5-3.5s-1.6-3.5-3.5-3.5-3.5 1.6-3.5 3.5 1.6 3.5 3.5 3.5z\"\/><\/svg><\/span><span class=\"dcr-1qvd3m6\">In October, Buckingham Palace announced it would strip Andrew of his royal titles.<\/span> Photograph: Kirsty Wigglesworth\/AP<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Thames Valley police said it had arrested \u201ca man in his 60s from Norfolk\u201d on suspicion of misconduct in public office and was carrying out searches at addresses in Berkshire and Norfolk.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Oliver Wright, one of the force\u2019s assistant chief constables, said: \u201cFollowing a thorough assessment, we have now opened an investigation into this allegation of misconduct in public office. It is important that we protect the integrity and objectivity of our investigation as we work with our partners to investigate this alleged offence. We understand the significant public interest in this case, and we will provide updates at the appropriate time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Norfolk police confirmed they were supporting Thames Valley\u2019s investigation. The current whereabouts of Mountbatten-Windsor is unknown. It is understood neither the king nor Buckingham Palace was informed in advance of Mountbatten-Windsor\u2019s arrest.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Mountbatten-Windsor has always denied any wrongdoing or accusations against him. He said: \u201cRepublic\u2019s lawyers will continue to investigate related alleged offences and provide information to the police over the coming weeks and months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The allegations stem from documents released by the US justice department relating to Epstein and his links to the rich and powerful. Emails released appeared to show Mountbatten-Windsor sharing reports of official visits to Hong Kong, Vietnam and Singapore.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">One email, dated November 2010, appeared to be forwarded by the former duke to Epstein five minutes after it was sent by his then special adviser, Amir Patel.
