Def Con also cited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2026\/02\/14\/epsteins-hackers-defcon-black-hat-00779365\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">an article in Politico<\/a> based on emails that the three exchanged with Epstein.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joan Vollero, a spokesperson for Iozzo, told TechCrunch in a statement that Def Con\u2019s actions are \u201centirely performative, given that Mr. Iozzo has barely attended the conference in the past twenty years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt was a rush to judgment not based on any investigation or wrongdoing by Mr. Iozzo,\u201d the spokesperson said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Representatives for Def Con, Holman, and Ito did not immediately respond to TechCrunch\u2019s request for comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The move to ban the three comes days after TechCrunch reported that cybersecurity conferences Black Hat and Code Blue <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2026\/02\/12\/hacker-linked-to-epstein-removed-from-black-hat-cyber-conference-website\/\">removed Iozzo from their official review board pages<\/a>, amid new and emerging revelations linking the prominent hacker, among others, to Epstein.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-block block--callout block--right has-green-500-background-color\">\n<h4 class=\"block--callout__title\">Contact Us<\/h4>\n<p>\t\t\tDo you have more information about Epstein\u2019s connections in the cybersecurity world?? He previously served as a director at CrowdStrike after the security giant acquired his cybersecurity startup IperLane in 2017. In 2019, the Department of Justice <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/usao-sdny\/pr\/jeffrey-epstein-charged-manhattan-federal-court-sex-trafficking-minors\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">accused<\/a> Epstein of trafficking, exploiting, and abusing dozens of underage girls. Epstein <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2023\/06\/27\/1184380805\/jeffrey-epstein-suicide-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">died<\/a> in jail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Iozzo previously told TechCrunch that his interactions with Epstein were \u201climited to business opportunities that never materialized, as well as discussion of the markets and emerging technologies,\u201d and that he \u201cnever observed nor participated in any illegal activity or behavior.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to his startups, Iozzo was a research affiliate at MIT Media Lab, which was overseen by Ito at the time. The two appear in several Epstein emails together.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Joichi Ito was the director of the MIT Media Lab until 2019, when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-us-canada-49623084\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">he resigned<\/a> after it was reported that he was aware that Epstein was a convicted sex offender and that he and the university had extensive personal and financial relationships with Epstein.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holman, meanwhile, is the general partner at venture capital firm Deep Future and describes himself on his website as \u201ca hacker, inventor &amp; technology futurist.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Holman was in contact with Epstein since 2010, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\/files\/DataSet%209\/EFTA00389694.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">planned to stay<\/a> at one of his apartments in New York City in 2013, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\/files\/DataSet%209\/EFTA00710503.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">tried to help<\/a> Epstein hide negative online news stories about himself.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/epstein\/files\/DataSet%2010\/EFTA01754675.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">According to an email<\/a>, Epstein made plans to attend Def Con along with Holman in 2013, but it\u2019s unclear if they attended.
