{"id":2194,"date":"2025-12-10T02:18:44","date_gmt":"2025-12-10T02:18:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=2194"},"modified":"2025-12-10T02:18:44","modified_gmt":"2025-12-10T02:18:44","slug":"sars-compliance-programme-secures-more-than-r300bn-in-collections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=2194","title":{"rendered":"Sars compliance programme secures more than R300bn in collections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div id=\"textFreeArticle\">\n<p>The South African Revenue Service (Sars) and National Treasury\u2019s 18th annual edition of the Tax Statistics Bulletin confirms the effectiveness of the revenue collector\u2019s compliance-driven initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>Sars is celebrating a whopping 16.7% year-on-year compliance collection increase, which it attributes to \u201cenhanced strategies and diligent implementation of compliance measures\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>These targeted strategic initiatives have yielded a rise in revenue collection from R260.5 billion in 2023\/24, to R304 billion in the 2024\/25 fiscal year.<\/p>\n<p>While a positive report for the country\u2019s cash-constrained infrastructure, what this translates to simply, for taxpayers, is \u2013 Sars will double down on targeted revenue collection, focusing on specific taxpayer segments, with crowd favourites being crypto traders and high-net-worth individuals.<\/p>\n<p>Listen: New Sars unit targets crypto non-compliance<\/p>\n<p>Sars\u2019s weapon of choice? Historic audits \u2013 leading to astronomical understatement penalties of up to 200% of the tax liability being imposed!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sars\u2019s fully loaded audit arsenal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since the start of 2025, we have \u00a0seen a significant spike in Sars audits, which in most cases result in the audit being finalised with adjustments, due to taxpayers missing the Requests for Relevant Material.<\/p>\n<p>What this means for you is an adverse finding being made by Sars, and manifested in upward adjustments on amounts included in \u201cgross income\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The adjustments often stem from an analysis of taxpayer bank accounts, and where a credit transaction is unexplainable, is deemed to form part of income.
