There has been talk in recent weeks of Mr Watt buying back the business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">A spokesperson for Brewdog said: \u201cFollowing a year of decisive action in 2025, which saw a focus on costs and operating efficiencies, we have appointed AlixPartners to support a structured and competitive process to evaluate the next phase of investment for the business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cThis is a deliberate and disciplined step with a focus on strengthening the long-term future of the Brewdog brand and its operations.\u201d The company expects \u201csubstantial interest\u201d. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In the meantime, the breweries and bars will continue to operate as normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In an email to staff, Brewdog said: \u201cAlixPartners are specialists in business performance and transformation, and they will work alongside the leadership team in the coming weeks to evaluate options and make recommendations, including assessing the next phase of investment in the business.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">\u201cIt is important to stress this is a normal and prudent step, and no decisions have been made. It has also been closing some pubs in the US.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">While the media reported that the company had returned to profit it later confirmed a<em> Daily Business<\/em> report that it would in fact post another loss and subsequently announced a \u00a336.6 million pre-tax loss.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Its largest shareholder, TSG, agreed to lend the company a further \u00a320m.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The group has 1,400 people and has breweries in Ellon in north east Scotland, as well as in the US, Australia and Germany.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">It gained a reputation for controversial marketing campaigns which brought it into conflict with the advertising authorities. It requires BrewDog to deliver an 18% compounding return on TSG\u2019s shares, creating growing pressure on the brewer\u2019s balance sheet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The co-founders have left the business which is now in the hands of chief executive James Taylor who has been trying to turn the ship around.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In 2021 it hired former Asda and Royal Mail chief Allan Leighton as chairman to clean up the company\u2019s tarnished public image, though problems have not entirely gone away and in 2024 it was late filing its accounts.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Mr Watt has since launched a number of other businesses, including an influencer company and attempts at supporting other startups to become \u2018unicorns\u2019 \u2013 companies worth $1 billion. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">He has also developed a fan following on the celebrity circuit alongside his wife Georgia Toffolo.
