Reach, the publisher of the Daily Record<\/em> and Sunday Mail<\/em>, is to print the titles in England and close its printing plant in Glasgow.<\/p>\n The switch puts about 95 jobs at the Cardonald facility at risk.<\/p>\n Apart from the Record and Mail, it prints the Scottish editions of national titles such as The Daily Express<\/em>, Daily Mirror <\/em>and Daily Star<\/em> as well as a number of local titles.<\/p>\n The plan involves moving print work to Reach\u2019s site in Oldham, near Manchester, with editions and titles serving the north of Scotland being handled by DC Thomson in Dundee. Another plant in Watford will also close.<\/p>\n A consultation process with all impacted employees at the two sites has already begun.<\/p>\n Reach chief executive Piers North said:\u00a0\u201cPrint remains an important part of our business, and will continue to drive considerable circulation revenue, but our future is firmly rooted in digital.<\/p>\n \u201cThis consolidation is a proactive and strategic move, positioning our business for long-term success.<\/p>\n \u201cBy refining our print operations, we can focus our attention on content and audiences \u2013 the core driver of our business \u2013 and accelerate our digital growth opportunities such as our digital subscriptions offering.\u201d<\/p>\n Three-quarters (76%) of Reach\u2019s revenue of \u00a3256m continues to come from print.<\/p>\n In a trading update on 20 January, the company noted the \u201cresilient performance of our print business\u201d and said continued cost control would mean it expcted to deliver ahead of current market expectations for the full year.<\/p>\n Opened in 1994, the purpose-built print centre was established on environmentally reclaimed land of a former landfill site.<\/p>\n It was officially opened by former prime minister Tony Blair to mark the centenary celebrations of the Daily Record.<\/em><\/p>\n \t <\/div>\n
