I am convinced that it is now up to all of us to focus on building a free and democratic country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Guanipa had spent more than eight months in custody.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Alfredo Romero, president of Venezuelan-based prisoners\u2019 rights group Foro Penal, expressed serious concern about Guanipa\u2019s disappearance. \u201cSo far, we have no clear information about who took him,\u201d he said on X. \u201cWe hope he will be released immediately.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Foro Penal confirmed the release of at least 30 people on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The releases of the opposition figures came as the government of acting president <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/delcy-rodriguez\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Delcy Rodr\u00edguez<\/a> has faced mounting pressure to free hundreds of people whose detentions months or years ago have been linked to their political activities. The releases also followed a visit to Venezuela by representatives of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The government\u2019s press office did not immediately respond to a request for comment early on Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Rodr\u00edguez was sworn in as Venezuela\u2019s acting president after the 3 January capture of then-President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/nicolas-maduro\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">Nicol\u00e1s Maduro<\/a> by the US military. Her government began releasing prisoners days later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Some of those freed on Sunday joined families waiting outside prisons for their loved ones to be released. They chanted \u201cWe are not afraid! We are not afraid!\u201d and marched a short distance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">In addition to Guanipa, Machado\u2019s political organisation said several of its members were among the released, including Mar\u00eda Oropeza, who livestreamed her arrest by military intelligence officers as they broke into her home with a crowbar. Machado\u2019s attorney, Perkins Rocha, was also freed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Guanipa\u2019s son, Ram\u00f3n, said on social media that his father was \u201cintercepted and kidnapped\u201d by \u201ca group of approximately 10 unidentified people.\u201d He also described three vehicles involved in the situation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cWe demand proof of life immediately and his release,\u201d Ram\u00f3n Guanipa wrote on X.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Guanipa was detained in May last year and accused by the interior minister, Diosdado Cabello, of participating in an alleged \u201cterrorist group\u201d plotting to boycott that month\u2019s legislative election.
