Since moving back to New York, I\u2019ve resolved to cover private equity more (after all, New York is the private equity capital of\u2026everywhere). So, that\u2019s how I landed at the PitchBook\u2019s 2026 Private Equity Outlook event earlier this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n

And a couple things are really clear: First, that the last couple years in private equity have been complicated, and that heading into this year there\u2019s a lot of \u201cthere\u2019s good news, and there\u2019s bad news.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The good news: Exits are up, with 2025 coming in as the second-best year for exits ever surpassed only by 2021, according to PitchBook data. That amounts to just over 1,600 exits, and nearly $730 billion in terms of exit value.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile it\u2019s a really nice rebound, you really need to see that momentum sustained in the year ahead to make up for that lost time from 2022 through 2024,\u201d said Kyle Walters, PitchBook private equity research analyst. \u201cA lot of sponsors remained on the sidelines, waiting for what they deemed to be a better exit environment, and now it finally seems that that exit environment has arrived.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

On the other hand, fundraising is down. In fact, 2025 marked the worst year for capital formation since 2020, Walters told the audience. \u201cWe kind of call it the success of the few and the challenges of the many,\u201d he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n

In short, though exits are up, there are still too many PE-backed companies that are rapidly maturing\u2014and need to find an exit in order for their backers to raise their next round. (Remember: Unlike venture capital, private equity isn\u2019t a system structured to assume failure\u2014for a small firm, one default may mean you can\u2019t raise again, full stop.)<\/p>\n

Some sectors to watch out for, as Ron Kahn, Lincoln International managing director, pointed out include software where \u201cARR is not materializing\u201d as expected, and energy. Power and energy could see big wins, or losses, he told the audience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cPeople have made big bets on power and energy,\u201d said Kahn. \u201cI don\u2019t know where that\u2019s going to go, but it\u2019s one way or another. It\u2019s probably binary.\u201d<\/p>\n

– <\/span>Third<\/b> Arc Bio<\/b>, a Philadelphia, Pa.-based antibody therapeutics company, raised $52 million in a Series A extension. <\/span>a16z<\/b> and <\/span>Omega<\/b> Funds<\/b> led the round and were joined by others.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Adaption<\/b> Labs<\/b>, a San Francisco-based developer of AI models designed to learn and adapt continuously, raised $50 million in seed funding. <\/span>Emergence<\/b> Capital<\/b> Partners<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>Mozilla<\/b> Ventures<\/b>, <\/span>Fifty<\/b> Years<\/b>, <\/span>Threshold<\/b> Ventures<\/b>, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Nomagic<\/b>, a Warsaw, Poland-based warehouse robotics company, raised $10 million in a Series B extension. <\/span>Cogito<\/b> Capital<\/b> Partners<\/b> led the round.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Apeiron<\/b> Labs<\/b>, a Cambridge, Mass.-based developer of autonomous observation networks designed for collecting ocean data, raised $9.5 million in Series A funding. <\/span>S2G<\/b> Investments<\/b>, <\/span>RA<\/b> Capital<\/b> Management<\/b>, and <\/span>DYNE<\/b> Ventures<\/b> led the round.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Fibr<\/b> AI<\/b>, a San Francisco-based developer of an AI platform designed to autonomously adapt websites for users, raised $7.5 million in seed funding. <\/span>Accel<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>WillowTree<\/b> Ventures<\/b>, <\/span>MVP<\/b> Ventures<\/b>, and others.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Expert<\/b> Intelligence<\/b>, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based developer of AI systems designed to automate decision-making in laboratory environments, raised $4.7 million in seed funding. <\/span>Sierra<\/b> Ventures<\/b> led the round and was joined by <\/span>TSVC<\/b> and <\/span>Acorn<\/b> Pacific<\/b> Ventures<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Linda<\/b> AI<\/b>, a London, U.K.-based developer of agentic AI technology for dental practices, raised \u00a32.3 million ($3 million) in pre-seed funding. <\/span>6 Degrees Capital<\/b> led the round.<\/span><\/p>\n

PRIVATE EQUITY<\/h3>\n

– <\/span>Prime Matter Labs<\/b>, a portfolio company of <\/span>Monogram<\/b> Capital<\/b> Partners<\/b>, acquired <\/span>Mana<\/b> Products<\/b>, a New York City-based beauty products manufacturer. Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Superior Health Holdings<\/b>, a portfolio company of <\/span>Renovus Capital Partners<\/b>, acquired <\/span>Pulse Home Health and Hospice<\/b>, a Covington, La.-based home health and hospice care provider. Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/span><\/p>\n

IPOS<\/h3>\n

– <\/span>Clear Street Group<\/b>, a New York City-based capital markets firm, plans to raise up to $1.047 billion in an offering of 23.8 million shares priced between $40 and $44 on the Nasdaq. <\/span>Prysm<\/b> Capital<\/b> backs the company.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Veradermics Therapeutics<\/b>, a New Haven, Conn.-based hair loss treatment company, plans to raise up to $256.7 million in an offering of 15.1 million shares priced at $17 on the New York Stock Exchange. <\/span>Longitude Capital<\/b>, <\/span>SR One Capital Management<\/b>, <\/span>J.W. – <\/span>BayHawk<\/b> Capital<\/b>, a Boston, Mass.-based private equity firm, raised $616 million in funding for its first fund focused on tech and essential services businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>Shore Capital Partners<\/b>, a Chicago, Ill.-based private equity firm, raised $400 million for its second fund focused on companies in the industrial sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

– <\/span>SNAK<\/b> Venture<\/b> Partners<\/b>, a Chicago, Ill.-based venture capital fund, raised $50 million for its first fund focused on marketplace companies.<\/span><\/p>\n
