{"id":18958,"date":"2026-02-05T08:00:31","date_gmt":"2026-02-05T08:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=18958"},"modified":"2026-02-05T08:00:31","modified_gmt":"2026-02-05T08:00:31","slug":"shell-profits-slip-on-lower-oil-price-ithaca-progressing-daily-business","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=18958","title":{"rendered":"Shell profits slip on lower oil price, Ithaca &#8216;progressing&#8217; \u2013 Daily Business"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/petrol-prices-.png\" alt=\"Petrol prices September 2023\" class=\"wp-image-157969 lazyload\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\"\/><img loading=\"lazy\" fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"794\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/petrol-prices-.png\" alt=\"Petrol prices September 2023\" class=\"wp-image-157969 lazyload\" style=\"width:840px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/petrol-prices-.png 794w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/petrol-prices--300x218.png 300w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/petrol-prices--768x557.png 768w, https:\/\/dailybusinessgroup.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/petrol-prices--600x435.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 794px) 100vw, 794px\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><em>Shell: announced a new buyback (pic: DB Media Services)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Oil and gas giant Shell reported lower-than-expected fourth-quarter profit as a weaker oil price hit the the FTSE 100 company\u2019s profits. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Adjusted earnings came in at $3.26 billion for the quarter, missing analysts\u2019 expectations of $3.53bn, and down from $3.66bn over the same period last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">For the full-year, Shell reported earnings of $18.5bn, compared with annual profit of\u00a0$23.72bn\u00a0a year earlier. <\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Income attributable to shareholders was $17.8bn, an 11% increase on $16.09bn in 2024 enabling the board to recommend a 4% increase in its dividend to $0.372 per share and a $3.5bn share buyback programme, a move that marks the 17th consecutive quarter of $3bn or more in buybacks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">The announcement came after Norway\u2019s\u00a0Equinor\u00a0declared\u00a0hefty cuts to share buybacks on Wednesday after posting a 22% drop in fourth-quarter profit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Equinor <\/strong>said it would reduce share buybacks to $1.5bin this year, down from $5bn last year, while also trimming investments in its renewables and low-emission energy projects.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\"><strong>BP\u00a0<\/strong>and France\u2019s\u00a0<strong>TotalEnergies<\/strong>\u00a0are both scheduled to report fourth-quarter earnings next week.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">North Sea explorer <strong>Ithaca Energy<\/strong> today said it expects to spend $224 million on the Rosebank development this year, falling below the bottom end of guidance of $230-270 million.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">In a trading update it said it expects a full year adjusted preliminary EBITDAX of $2bn (2024: $1.4bn), reflecting the group\u2019s \u201csignificantly enhanced cash generation capacity\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size\">Yaniv Friedman, executive chairman,\u00a0commented: \u201c2025 was a year of great progress as we continued to deliver on our value creation strategy.
