Democratic lawmakers say ‘dramatic changes’ needed from DHS as negotiations continue<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n
Speaking at the US Capitol today, Senate and House Democrats said that \u201cdramatic changes\u201d<\/strong> are needed at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as they continue their negotiations over a full-year appropriations bill<\/p>\n A reminder that Trump signed a stopgap spending measure on Tuesday that funds the DHS until 13 February while lawmakers hammer out guardrails.<\/p>\n The Senate\u2019s top Democrat, Chuck Schumer, said that the party is also demanding the end of \u201croving patrols\u201d, \u201cindependent oversight by state and local governments\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cno secret police\u201d<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Democrats have pushed for the need of judicial warrants to conduct raids, a reduction in aggressive tactics, and for agents to not wear masks.<\/p>\n \u201cYou can\u2019t just stop anybody on the street \u2026 and not even tell them why they\u2019re picked up,\u201d Schumer said today.
