French police and Europol searched the local office of X, the Paris prosecutor\u2019s office announced<\/a> on Tuesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n The raid is part of an ongoing investigation launched in 2025<\/a> on allegations of \u201cfraudulent extraction of data\u201d of an automated data-processing system \u201cby an organized group.\u201d<\/p>\n French prosecutors\u2019 cybercrime unit said the investigation has now been expanded to cover other alleged crimes, including complicity in possession and distribution of child sexual abuse material, privacy violations, and Holocaust denial.<\/p>\n The expansion of the investigation comes as X and its owner Elon Musk face widespread criticism<\/a> for allowing its Grok AI to be used to generate nonconsensual imagery, including child abuse imagery, of other people on its platform.<\/p>\n Musk, who bought X<\/a> (previously Twitter) in 2022, and former X chief executive Linda Yaccarino were summoned for questioning on April 20. Unnamed X staffers were also summoned for the same week, per the prosecutor\u2019s announcement.\u00a0<\/p>\n When reached for comment, X spokesperson Rosemarie Esposito referred to a statement<\/a> posted on X\u2019s Global Government Affairs account, in which the company said \u201cthe allegations underlying today\u2019s raid are baseless and X categorically denies any wrongdoing.\u201d<\/p>\n
