{"id":18242,"date":"2026-02-03T03:39:33","date_gmt":"2026-02-03T03:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=18242"},"modified":"2026-02-03T03:39:33","modified_gmt":"2026-02-03T03:39:33","slug":"mark-of-cain-singer-comes-out-as-trans-to-finally-live-as-myself-australian-music","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=18242","title":{"rendered":"Mark of Cain singer comes out as trans \u2018to finally live as myself\u2019 | Australian music"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The guitarist and vocalist in Australian heavy metal band the Mark of Cain has come out as a trans woman, writing that seeing younger trans people live freely had \u201chelped shine a light on the possibility that maybe I can finally be me in my autumn years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">On Monday night, Josie Scott wrote <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/OfficialTMOC\/posts\/pfbid0j2qugRsXbL9br7ueMqUcB8fvHWasCQxgXu22CC2zXD1WX3a6suzDdzzBxLfotxVil\" data-link-name=\"in body link\">a statement to fans on the band\u2019s social media<\/a>, announcing that her family know her as Josie or Jo and \u201cgiven where I identify on the gender spectrum, I fit within the paradigm of being a trans woman\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cAs I\u2019ve aged, and mortality is ever closer, I\u2019ve decided to embrace, rather than endure, who I am,\u201d the 63-year-old wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Josie and her brother Kim have been in the Mark Of Cain since the band formed in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/australia-news\/adelaide\" data-link-name=\"in body link\" data-component=\"auto-linked-tag\">Adelaide<\/a> in 1984. Their debut album Battlesick was released in 1989 to acclaim, and later put out in the US by Black Flag and Rollins Band frontman Henry Rollins.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">The band was inducted into the South Australian Music Hall Of Fame in 2022, joining the likes of the Masters Apprentices, the Angels and Cold Chisel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Scott wrote that she has struggled with gender dysphoria since she was a small child. \u201cI always assumed I\u2019d just live my life, complain a lot, and die leaving some clues in my songs and journals for family to read and think, \u2018Oohaahh what a very strange (albeit talented) person\u2019,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">Her gender dysmorphia has fed into the band\u2019s music, she said, with their 1995 album Ill at Ease, which was produced by Rollins, touching on this struggle \u201cthough I was trying not to be too obvious\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cTMOC was often interpreted as a very masculine, testosterone driven band, which greatly acted as a way of being as a \u2018beard\u2019 for me in many ways. Much of what was interpreted as masculine was often being generated from my internal rage about my own dissatisfaction about myself and the paralysis I felt in being unable to live as me,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">It was while recovering from long Covid in 2022 that she began to consider \u201cwhether when the time came to leave earth, I could do so, with no regrets\u201d.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dcr-130mj7b\">\u201cMy answer was a big, \u2018No, you\u2019ve never been authentic\u2019,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI knew I would always regret not having the courage of my convictions to live my life.
