Starmer arrives in Beijing<\/h2>\n<\/header>\n

Keir Starmer<\/strong> has arrived in China on the first visit by a British Prime Minister in eight years, PA Media reports. PA says:<\/p>\n

<\/svg>A delegation of almost 60 representatives of British businesses and cultural institutions is accompanying the prime minister as he continues his efforts to build bridges with Beijing.<\/p>\n

But concerns over the risk China poses to national security and Xi Jinping\u2019s record on human rights mean Starmer\u2019s visit is politically sensitive.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters on the flight to Beijing, the prime minister said: \u201cThe evidence there are opportunities is the fact that we\u2019ve got so many CEOs with us on this flight, that we\u2019ve got 60 coming out to explore those opportunities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Stamer added that this \u201creflects back at home in terms of the benefit that it brings back to the United Kingdom\u201d.<\/p>\n

The head of MI5 Sir Ken McCallum has warned that \u201cChinese state actors\u201d present a national security threat to the UK \u201cevery day\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n
