The final episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert<\/a> will air on 21 May, the host has announced.<\/p>\n Colbert, who has hosted the show since 2015, revealed the date on Monday<\/a> during a taping of NBC\u2019s Late Night With Seth Meyers to air on Tuesday night. Colbert will appear on Meyers\u2019s show as a guest.<\/p>\n CBS had announced in July that The Late Show would come to an end<\/a> in May, more than 30 years after its debut in 1993 under David Letterman. \u201cIt\u2019s not just the end of the show. It is the end of the Late Show on CBS<\/a>. I\u2019m not being replaced \u2013 this is all just going away,\u201d Colbert told his audience in July. A date for the final episode, however, had not been revealed.<\/p>\n News of the show\u2019s cancellation came a few weeks after CBS\u2019s parent company, Paramount, reached a $16m settlement<\/a> with Donald Trump over what he called deceptive editing of a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. At the same time, Paramount was preparing for an $8.4bn merger with Skydance Media, which needed federal approval<\/a>. Days before the cancellation was announced, Colbert described the settlement as a \u201cbig fat bribe\u201d.<\/p>\n CBS called the show\u2019s cancellation<\/a> \u201cpurely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night\u201d, saying it was \u201cnot related in any way to the show\u2019s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount\u201d.<\/p>\n But the cancellation of late night\u2019s No 1 show sparked anger and sadness among viewers, entertainers<\/a> and politicians. \u201cStephen Colbert, an extraordinary talent and the most popular late night host, slams the deal.
