Instead, intermediaries may be placed in charge of procurements and overseeing the financial costs of executing designs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe process is not often as linear as we [designers] would like it to be, and at times we even get slightly cut out, and something comes out on the other side that wasn\u2019t really what we were expecting,\u201d said Tina Norden, a partner and principal at design firm Conran and Partners, at the Fortune Brainstorm Design forum in Macau on Dec. 2.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo have a better quality product, communication is very much needed,\u201d added Daisuke Hironaka, the CEO of Stellar Works, a furniture company based in Shanghai.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yet those tasked with procurement are often \u201cmoney people\u201d who may not value good design\u2014instead forsaking it to cut costs. More education on the business value of quality design is needed, Norden argued.<\/p>\n<p>When one builds something, she said, there are both capital investment and a lifecycle cost. \u201cIf you\u2019re spending a bit more money on good quality furniture, flooring, whatever it might be, arguably, it should last a lot longer, and so it\u2019s much better value.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Investing in well-designed products is also better for the environment, Norden added, as they don\u2019t have to be replaced as quickly.<\/p>\n<p>Attempts to cut costs may also backfire in the long run, said Hironaka, as business owners may have to foot higher maintenance bills if products are of poor design and make.<\/p>\n<p><strong>AI in interior and furniture design<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Though designers have largely been slow adopters of AI, some luminaries like Daisuke are attempting to integrate it into their team\u2019s workflow.<\/p>\n<p>AI can help accelerate the process of designing bespoke furniture, Daisuke explained, especially for large-scale projects like hotels.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A team may take a month to 45 days to create drawings for 200 pieces of custom-made furniture, the designer said, but AI can speed up this process. \u201cWe designed a lot in the past, and if AI can use these archives, study [them] and help to do the engineering, that makes it more helpful for designers.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Yet designers can rest easy as AI won\u2019t ever be able to replace the human touch they bring, Norden said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is something about the human touch, and about understanding how we like to use our spaces, how we enjoy space, how we perceive spaces, that will always be there\u2014but AI should be something that can assist us [in] getting to that point quicker.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She added that creatives can instead view AI as a tool for tasks that are time-consuming but \u201cdon\u2019t need ultimate creativity,\u201d like researching and three-dimensionalizing designs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs designers, we like to procrastinate and think about things for a very long time to get them just right, [but] we can get some help in doing things faster.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>#Procurement #execs #dont #understand #good #design #experts<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Behind every intricately desig&hellip; <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":1604,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[2],"tags":[1526,268,1530,1223,1528,804,66,1527,1529],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1603"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=1603"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/1603\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/media\/1604"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=1603"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=1603"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=1603"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
