The fire began early on Monday morning at the Violanta biscuit factory<\/figcaption><\/p>\n<\/figure>\n

At least three people have been killed and two others are still missing after a fire broke out at a food factory near the central Greek city of Trikala, officials say.<\/p>\n

The blaze began in the early hours of Monday at a Violanta biscuit factory, where 13 workers were on site, according to local media. Eight people managed to escape, while firefighters later recovered three bodies from the building.<\/p>\n

Drone footage showed thick smoke billowing from the fire. <\/p>\n

A powerful explosion was reportedly heard before it broke out but an investigation into the cause of the blaze is ongoing.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Health minister Adonis Georgiadis earlier told the Skai news agency that six workers and a firefighter had been taken to hospital, adding that they were “in good health, mainly suffering from respiratory problems”. <\/p>\n

The Greek fire service said 40 firefighters and 13 fire trucks had be sent to tackle the blaze.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
