Hampshire’s Mayes, 18, fell one short of the overall record tournament score of 192, set by Sri Lanka’s Viran Chamuditha against Japan four days ago.<\/p>\n
The right-hander, who was batting at number three, smashed 18 fours and eight sixes in his blistering 117-ball knock.<\/p>\n
He was well supported by Lancashire’s Joe Moores – nephew of former England coach Peter – who hit 81 off 65 balls in a second-wicket stand of 188.<\/p>\n
Mayes takes the national record from Dan Lawrence, who hit 174 for England against Fiji in 2016.<\/p>\n
The highest score in a full one-day international for England is Ben Stokes’ 182 against New Zealand in 2023.<\/p>\n
England finished on 404-6 – the seventh-highest total in tournament history and the first time England themselves have passed 400.<\/p>\n
Scotland were bundled out for just 152 in reply, with Finlay Carter (34) the only batter to offer any real resistance. <\/p>\n
