{"id":1401,"date":"2025-12-07T15:27:50","date_gmt":"2025-12-07T15:27:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=1401"},"modified":"2025-12-07T15:27:50","modified_gmt":"2025-12-07T15:27:50","slug":"openai-says-its-turned-off-app-suggestions-that-look-like-ads","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=1401","title":{"rendered":"OpenAI says it\u2019s turned off app suggestions that look like ads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">While OpenAI continues to insist that there are currently no ads \u2014 or tests for advertising \u2014 live in ChatGPT, the company\u2019s chief research officer Mark Chen also <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/markchen90\/status\/1996976743660556584\">acknowledged<\/a> that the company \u201cfell short\u201d with recent promotional messages and is working to improve the experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Chen and other OpenAI executives were responding to posts from ChatGPT\u2019s paying subscribers who complained about seeing promotional messages for companies like <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/koltregaskes\/status\/1995499123391226361?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1995572734617939973%7Ctwgr%5Ee4895d85ea03b5182f3e3cf2a36b86153d1d71ce%7Ctwcon%5Es2_&amp;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Ftechcrunch.com%2F2025%2F12%2F02%2Fopenai-slammed-for-app-suggestions-that-looked-like-ads%2F\">Peloton<\/a> and <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/BenjaminDEKR\/status\/1996059933998285094\">Target<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In response, the company said it was <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/12\/02\/openai-slammed-for-app-suggestions-that-looked-like-ads\/\">only testing ways to show apps<\/a> built on the ChatGPT app platform that it <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/openai.com\/index\/introducing-apps-in-chatgpt\/\">announced in October<\/a>, with \u201cno financial component\u201d to those suggestions. People trust ChatGPT and anything we do will be designed to respect that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier that same day, however, Chen <a rel=\"nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/markchen90\/status\/1996976743660556584\">responded<\/a> in a more apologetic tone, acknowledging that the controversy isn\u2019t just a matter of user confusion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI agree that anything that feels like an ad needs to be handled with care, and we fell short,\u201d he wrote. \u201cWe\u2019ve turned off this kind of suggestion while we improve the model\u2019s precision.
