Donald Trump linked his claims on Greenland to not being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in a letter the US president sent to Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store.<\/p>\n
\u201cConsidering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace,\u201d Trump says in the letter obtained by Bloomberg. \u201cAlthough it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland,\u201d the US president added.<\/p>\n
The Nobel Peace Prize isn\u2019t decided by the Norwegian government but is awarded by an independent committee.<\/p>\n
Requests for comment sent to Store\u2019s press office and the White House weren\u2019t immediately returned.<\/p>\n
Trump rattled NATO allies over the weekend after threatening to impose tariffs on a group of European members of the alliance if he doesn\u2019t get control of Greenland. The escalation prompted outrage among European Union leaders and a call by French President Emmanuel Macron to activate the bloc\u2019s most powerful retaliation tool.<\/p>\n

EU ambassadors met on Sunday to discuss options if Trump follows through with his threats, including tariffs on some \u20ac93 billion ($108 billion) worth of American goods. The bloc\u2019s leaders are due to meet for an emergency summit on Thursday.<\/p>\n
\u201cNATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that \u2018you have to get the Russian threat away from Greenland.\u2019 Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!,\u201d Trump posted on the social media platform Truth Social on Monday.<\/p>\n
His message has been echoed by several senior US officials, including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent who told NBC\u2019s Meet the Press that Europe was too weak to ensure Greenland\u2019s security in an interview on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Separately, Norway reacted with disbelief last week after Nobel Peace Prize laureate Mar\u00eda Corina Machado gave her medal to Trump, who has long coveted the award. Trump, who claims to deserve the peace prize for having resolved numerous wars during his second term, accepted the medal from the Venezuelan opposition leader at a White House meeting.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Nobel Prize and the laureate are inseparable,\u201d the Norwegian Nobel Committee said in a statement on Friday. \u201cEven if the medal or diploma later comes into someone else\u2019s possession, this does not alter who was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a separate post on social media on Sunday, the Nobel committee said \u201ca prize can therefore not, even symbolically, be passed on or further distributed.\u201d<\/p>\n
