On Tuesday night, Andrew Cuomo<\/a> conceded to democratic socialist<\/a><\/span> Zohran Mamdani<\/a><\/span> in the New York City<\/a> Democratic<\/a> primary election for mayor. Though Mamdani holds 44% of first-choice votes to Cuomo’s 36% of first-choice votes, the race has not been called yet as the election is expected to proceed into its ranked-choice voting<\/a><\/span> system. As of late that evening, 90% of votes had been counted.\n<\/p>\n

“Tonight is his night,” Cuomo said of his rival, who was endorsed by progressive figures Bernie Sanders<\/a> and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez<\/a><\/span>.\n<\/p>\n

Andrew Cuomo formerly had served as governor of New York State<\/a> but resigned in 2021 amid a sexual harassment scandal. Mamdani was elected to the New York State Assembly in 2020 and has been reelected twice.\n<\/p>\n
