The U.S. State Department posted, \u201cThis is our hemisphere.\u201d And Trump aide Stephen Miller said the U.S. could next seize Greenland, arguing we live in a \u201creal world\u201d governed by strength, force, and power. <\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Here\u2019s what leaders need to know about the \u201cTrump Corollary\u201d to the Monroe Doctrine\u2014which Trump renamed the \u201cDonroe\u201d doctrine\u2014to dominate the Western Hemisphere and exert influence over its oil, gas, and critical minerals for national security purposes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Welcome to the age of \u2018petro diplomacy\u2019<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Venezuela was clearly a warning shot to the hemisphere and the world, says Dan Pickering, founder of the Pickering Energy Partners consulting and research firm. Why now? The U.S. leads the world in oil and natural gas production, but its industries are maturing, meanwhile the U.S. needs help with critical minerals supply chains dominated by China. \u201cAnything to keep more production close and friendly, I think we want to do,\u201d Pickering told <em>Fortune<\/em>. That said, \u201cAny next military step [beyond Venezuela] seems a lot harder to justify.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some fear Trump\u2019s gambit could embolden our enemies<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are neocon fantasies. People don\u2019t like their governments, but they really don\u2019t like the U.S. coming in and dictating to them,\u201d observes David Goldwyn, Atlantic Council fellow and State Department special envoy for international energy in the Obama administration. Military action against Venezuela doesn\u2019t deter China and Russia, it emboldens and incentivizes them to act against Taiwan and Ukraine, respectively, he said. <\/p>\n<p><strong>It will be years before U.S. companies see a profit in Venezuela<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Although Venezuela is home to the world\u2019s largest oil reserves, its dilapidated industry produces less than 1% of the world\u2019s oil. The company, which has come under scrutiny for its child safety safeguards, was valued at $15 billion in 2021.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Meet Project Maxwell\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">The race to master wearable AI got a new entrant Tuesday when Motorola <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">unveiled its Project Maxwell<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, which remains in concept for now. The device\u2019s built-in camera \u201ccollects full scenario data.\u201d It\u2019s one of many AI-powered wearables that are expected to hit the market this year, with observers eagerly awaiting the offering OpenAI is developing with former Apple designer Jony Ive.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Elon Musk\u2019s ex says Grok produced explicit images of her<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Elon Musk\u2019s ex Ashley St. Clair told <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Fortune<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> that she is considering legal action after Musk\u2019s AI chatbot Grok allegedly created fake sexually explicit images of her that circulated on X, the social media platform owned by Musk. St. Clair said several other women have told her of similar experiences, and she has also seen AI-generated images of minors posted on the site. X did not immediately respond to <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Fortune<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight:400\">\u2019s request for comment, but Musk wrote on the platform that \u201canyone using Grok to make illegal content will suffer the same consequences as if they upload illegal content.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Musk\u2019s xAI raises new round<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Meanwhile, Musk\u2019s xAI, which developed Grok, <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">has raised $20 billion in funding<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, which likely pushes its valuation above $230 billion. In a statement, xAI said it was aiming to raise $15 billion but investor enthusiasm boosted the sum.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Greg Abel\u2019s payday<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">New Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">will earn a salary of $25 million<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">, far outpacing the $100,000 his predecessor Warren Buffett earned in annual salary for more than 40 years.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Hilton\u2019s ICE playbook<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:400\">Hilton seems to be <\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\">writing a new crisis management playbook<\/span><span style=\"font-weight:400\"> with its swift reaction to conservative criticism that a Minnesota Hampton Inn property, part of its network, denied hotel rooms to ICE agents.
