{"id":12091,"date":"2026-01-14T00:38:36","date_gmt":"2026-01-14T00:38:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=12091"},"modified":"2026-01-14T00:38:36","modified_gmt":"2026-01-14T00:38:36","slug":"man-to-plead-guilty-to-hacking-us-supreme-court-filing-system","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/microvibenews.com\/?p=12091","title":{"rendered":"Man to plead guilty to hacking US Supreme Court filing system"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p id=\"speakable-summary\" class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A resident of Springfield, Tennessee, is expected to plead guilty to hacking the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s electronic document filing system dozens of times over several months.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prosecutors say between August and October 2023, Nicholas Moore, 24, \u201cintentionally accessed a computer without authorization on 25 different days and thereby obtained information from a protected computer,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.documentcloud.org\/documents\/26471476-usa-v-moore-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">a court document<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As of this writing, there aren\u2019t any more details about exactly what information Moore accessed, nor how it was accessed.\u00a0Moore is scheduled to plead guilty in court by video link on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When reached, a spokesperson for the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, which brought the charges against Moore, told TechCrunch that prosecutors cannot provide any more information that hasn\u2019t already been made public.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Spokespeople for the U.S. Department of Justice did not immediately respond to TechCrunch\u2019s request for more information about the case.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moore\u2019s lawyer, Eugene Ohm, did not respond to an email seeking comment.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The case <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SeamusHughes\/status\/2010829753876463726\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">was first spotted<\/a> by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.courtwatch.news\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Court Watch\u2019s Seamus Hughes<\/a>, a researcher and journalist who monitors court documents.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is one of several occasions in recent years in which hackers have compromised U.S. court systems. The Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts, which oversees the federal judiciary, said in August that it had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.uscourts.gov\/data-news\/judiciary-news\/2025\/08\/07\/cybersecurity-measures-strengthened-light-attacks-judiciarys-case-management-system\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">strengthened its cybersecurity defenses<\/a> following a cyberattack on its electronic court records system.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hackers working for the Russian government were <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2025\/08\/12\/russian-government-hackers-said-to-be-behind-us-federal-court-filing-system-hack-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">blamed for the breach<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Do you have more information about this case?
